China is deeply saddened by the casualties caused by the conflict in both countries and extends sincere condolences, hoping that both sides will act in the common interest of their peoples, uphold the spirit of valuing peace and good neighborliness, remain calm and restrained, cease the conflict as soon as possible, resolve differences, and restore peace and stability to the border area at an early date through dialogue and consultation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday in response to the border conflict between Cambodia and Thailand.
Cambodia and Thailand are neighbors that cannot be moved and are both friendly countries to China. Upholding good-neighborly trust and properly managing differences serves the fundamental and long-term interests of both sides and is conducive to regional peace and stability, the spokesperson said.
Guo emphasized that both Cambodia and Thailand are important members of ASEAN. In recent days, ASEAN has actively promoted a ceasefire between the two countries, which China appreciates.
China welcomes all efforts conducive to easing tensions. Guided by a just and impartial position, China will continue to maintain close communication with Cambodia and Thailand, actively encourage peace and facilitate dialogue, and play a constructive role in promoting a ceasefire and ending the conflict, Guo said.
