Two more Israeli soldiers have been killed as a result of retaliatory operations by resistance fighters in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, where the Israeli regime has been engaged in a brutal war since October 2023.
In a statement released on Sunday, the Israeli military confirmed that the soldiers were killed when their armored vehicle exploded in the city of Khan Yunis.
The two soldiers, aged 20 and 22, were part of the Golani Infantry Brigade's 51st Battalion.
Israeli media outlets, citing military sources, reported that the blast was caused by an improvised explosive device detonated by Palestinian fighters emerging from a tunnel.
The announcement by the Israeli military on Sunday came a day after it confirmed that another soldier had died from wounds sustained the previous week.
The Israeli military says that 462 soldiers have been killed since the onset of its ground offensive in the besieged Palestinian territory in October 2023.
Independent media reports indicate that the actual death toll is believed to be much higher.
The Israeli war has resulted in the deaths of 59,733 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to data from the health ministry in the territory.
In mid-July, the Israeli military confirmed that at least 43 soldiers had taken their own lives in recent months due to profound psychological trauma and exposure to extreme violence.
Despite efforts by the Israeli army to censor reports of suicides among soldiers, evidence continues to surface of a significant increase in such cases.
Reports suggest that the army has been burying some of these soldiers without military funerals or public announcements, in an attempt to conceal the extent of the crisis.
In recent months, a growing manpower shortage has led the Israeli army to recall soldiers diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Critics argue that the Israeli regime is sending more soldiers into Gaza to fight in areas where battles have already taken place multiple times.
This comes as unprecedented criticism has surfaced against the Israeli regime's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu's war-mongering polices.
Israeli columnist Nadav Eyal, in a strongly worded opinion published in Yedioth Ahronoth, recently described the war in Gaza as a deadly trap marked by heavy losses and an unending drain on resources.
Despite repeated assurances from Washington of its "sincere support", Eyal hinted that serious doubts remain about Israel's overall strategy in Gaza.
An Israeli media report earlier indicated that the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas had reorganized its command structure and was executing deadly attacks based on new intelligence.
