Spain's Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares says Madrid will press the European Union to suspend its cooperation agreement with Israel, calling for stronger measures to ensure an end to the war in Gaza.
Speaking ahead of a meeting of E.U. foreign ministers in Brussels on Tuesday, Albares welcomed a recent agreement between the E.U. and Israel to facilitate the flow of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, but stressed that the step was insufficient.
He called on the 27-member bloc to take punitive measures to ensure the war comes to an end, El País daily reported.
Albares said Spain would push the E.U. to adopt concrete actions against Israel, including suspending the E.U.-Israel Association Agreement at least for the duration of the war, or implementing an arms embargo on Tel Aviv.
