The United Nations (UN) warns that more than 700,000 residents of Gaza have been displaced since the Israeli regime broke its ceasefire agreement with the Palestinian resistance group Hamas.
Stephane Dujarric, the Director of News and Media in the UN's Department of Public Information, on Monday raised alarm over the continued mass displacement of people in the Gaza Strip.
"Yesterday, Israeli authorities issued another displacement order for parts of Khan Younis for the second time in two days. Our colleagues estimate that more than 50,000 people are in the area slated for displacement," said Dujarric at a news conference.
Dujarric said that Palestinians have been "killed over the weekend while attempting to get food," and added that hospitals are "overwhelmed" with patients injured while seeking aid.
He condemned the Israeli regime's killing of aid-seekers near aid distribution sites and said that according to the World Food Program (WFP) one out of three people in Gaza has eaten food in days.
He called on Israel to open all crossings into Gaza to facilitate the flow of aid. The regime, he said, has blocked entry of fuel for four months.
"Fuel is a lifeline in Gaza, and Israeli authorities must allow this commodity to enter without any further delay ... Gaza could suffer from an internet blackout imminently due to the shortage of fuel," he warned.
He also reported that three out of eight humanitarian coordination attempts were denied by Israel on Sunday, which hindered critical operations in Gaza.
According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), all five major regions of Gaza suffer from level four famine, which indicates a severe food crisis characterized by widespread food consumption gaps, leading to high levels of acute malnutrition and excess mortality.
Israel issues latest forced evacuation threat in Khan Younis
The Israeli army's Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, has issued the latest forced evacuation order for civilians living in nine areas in Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Adraee said the army was expanding its operation and "intensifying sudden and concentrated firepower" and called on residents to evacuate westwards.
So-called Israeli safe zones, including al-Mawasi in Khan Younis, are routinely attacked by the regime despite the army forcing Palestinians to move to those areas.
Since October 7, 2023, when Israel began its campaign of genocide in Gaza, it has massacred over 57,570 Palestinians and wounded nearly 137,000, according to estimates by the health ministry of Gaza.
