Israel has launched attacks on multiple locations in Yemen, prompting a retaliatory response from the Arab country and promises from Yemeni officials for more operations against the regime in support of Palestinians in war-ravaged Gaza.
Airstrikes by the Israeli regime hit three Yemeni ports of al-Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and as-Salif, as well as the Ras Kathib power plant in Yemen on Sunday, Qatar's Al Jazeera TV network reported, citing the Israeli military.
According to the report, Israel also struck a radar system on Galaxy Leader vessel that Yemen had seized in November 2023 and was docked in al-Hodeidah. The attacks were the latest by the Israeli regime on Yemen in a month.
In response, Yemen's Army fired missiles toward the occupied territories early Monday. Sirens were triggered in the cities of al-Quds and al-Khalil, as well as areas near the Dead Sea, but no injuries or damage were reported.
The Yemeni Armed Forces' spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, confirmed the latest Israeli attacks, saying that the Yemeni air defenses confronted the air aggression. He also confirmed Yemen's retaliatory response, saying that 11 drones and hypersonic ballistic missiles were fired at Israel.
He said that Ben Gurion Airport, near al-Quds, Ashdod Port, and Ashkelon's power plant were targeted in what he described as the "successful operation."
Yemeni political officials meanwhile promised more responses to the Israeli regime.
Nasr al-Din Amer, a senior official of the Ansarullah Movement, said that Israelis must head to shelters, because those who carry out aggression against Gaza and Yemen will not sleep in peace.
Israel has repeatedly attacked Yemen over the past months as the Arab country has continued its military operations against the regime in a show of support for Palestinians in Gaza and to force Israel to end its war in the besieged territory.
Reactions to Israeli aggression
Different Palestinian groups reacted to the latest Israeli attacks on Yemen.
The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement, condemning the attacks as an act of aggression against the Yemeni people, according to Lebanon's Al Mayadeen.
The Popular Resistance Committees condemned the attacks as well, saying that they show that the Israeli regime is afraid of deep blows inflicted by the resistance, Yemen's Al Masirah TV network reported
The Palestinian Mujahideen Movement also denounced the Israeli regime's aggression, emphasizing that the Yemeni people are paying the price for their honorable resistance alongside the Palestinian nation, according to Ansarullah's official website.
