Gaza ceasefire talks to resume on Monday

The Israeli regime and the Palestinian resistance movement of Hamas are set to resume indirect ceasefire talks in the Qatari capital, a day after the first round of negotiation ended without a breakthrough.

A Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations told media that talks are expected on Monday with mediators planning separate meetings with each delegation in an effort to overcome the obstacles and narrow the gaps between the two sides.

Sunday's talks lasted for nearly three and a half hours and messages were exchanged through Qatari and Egyptian mediators.

The negotiations come as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu heads to Washington to meet U.S. President Donald Trump. Netanyahu said that his meeting with Trump could help progress in reaching a deal on prisoners' swap and a ceasefire in Gaza.

Earlier, Netanyahu's office announced about sending a delegation to Qatar for indirect talks with Hamas but said, Netanyahu had rejected as "unacceptable" changes requested by Hamas to the 60-day ceasefire proposal, without elaborating on them.

Two Palestinian officials were quoted by the media as saying that the Israeli delegation was not "sufficiently authorized" to reach an agreement with Hamas because it had "no real powers".

Hamas has welcomed the latest ceasefire despite gaps between the two sides amid excessive Israeli demands and continued genocide in Gaza.

Israel and Hamas have been engaged in indirect talks since January to reach a deal that ends the war on Gaza and swaps Israeli captives with Palestinian prisoners.

The two sides have been back and forth over a three-phased proposed outline for the agreement presented by mediators.

A ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas was also reached on January 17, but Israel resumed its war on Gaza on March 18, with backing from the United States.

Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has killed at least 57,268 Palestinians, most of them women and children, and wounded 135,625, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
