MANILA -- The Philippine government is consistent in pushing for a two-state solution in the Israel-Palestine question, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Thursday as it advocated anew for dialogue among concerned parties.
"We'll always support freedom and rule of law. We're one of the few countries in the region with good relations with all the countries there, whether Arab or Israelis or Iranians," Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Eduardo Jose De Vega said in an interview.
De Vega noted that Manila had been vocal on the humanitarian issue in Gaza and had also voted in favor of United Nations resolutions that criticized certain actions in the besieged enclave.

Palestinian Ambassador to the Philippines Mounir Anastas earlier urged the country to "apply some pressure" to convince Israel to "respect the humanitarian question in Gaza," including in the West Bank.
Foreign Affairs Assistant Secretary Germinia Aguilar-Usudan, in the same interview, said the Philippines would continue to throw its full backing on the two-state solution that seeks an "independent Israel and independent Palestine in one territory with well-defined borders."
"I think pressure is not the solution to this but dialogue and understanding," she said.
"So, we stick to our position that we support all efforts for bilateral and also as well as multilateral efforts to come up with a more solid and consistent and stable peace in the Middle East."
During his intervention at the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on May 27, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. called for adherence to international humanitarian law in the Gaza crisis.
Marcos expressed deep concern over the escalating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, seeking the protection of civilians, especially women and children, as well as the facilitation of humanitarian assistance to all those who are in need. (PNA)
