The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas says its fighters launched an attack on Israeli forces in southern Gaza, destroying a military vehicle and killing the soldiers inside.
In a Wednesday statement, the movement said fighters from the Al-Qassam Brigades— the armed wing of Hamas—killed "the killers of (Palestinian) children" in the attack.
Israeli media reported on Tuesday that seven soldiers were killed and many others were injured in an attack in Khan Yunis.
Hamas said the resistance fighters will make "the enemy pay a heavy price for its brutal crimes against our people."
Hamas also said the prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his "fascist regime" bear full responsibility for the failure to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
It said Netanyahu keeps obstructing ceasefire talks, because he is still under "the illusion of releasing his captives (in Gaza) by military force."
This, Hamas said, is "serving his personal goals of remaining in power and continuing to promote the illusion of 'absolute victory.'"
The resistance group reaffirmed that it remains open to continued mediation efforts and expressed willingness to consider any serious proposals that could lead to a comprehensive ceasefire deal.
Hamas reiterated its core conditions for a deal with Tel Aviv— a permanent ceasefire, full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, the unrestricted flow of humanitarian aid, the start of reconstruction, and a serious prisoner exchange agreement.
