
FM Araghchi: Iran's hope is to open 'new page' in ties with Lebanon

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Iran's hope is to open a new page in long-established ties anchored in respect and common interests with Lebanon after meetings with the country's officials in Beirut.
"I was pleased to be back in beautiful Beirut. During my meetings with the President, the Speaker of the Parliament, the Prime Minister, and the Foreign Minister, I expressed my full support for Lebanon's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and reconstruction" amid the ongoing Israeli occupation, Araqchi wrote in a post published in Arabic on his official account on the social media platform X on Wednesday.
He emphasized, "Our goal and hope is to open a new chapter in our centuries-old relationship, built on mutual respect and common interests."
In a meeting held in Beirut on Tuesday, the Iranian foreign minister voiced Tehran's readiness to help the government of Lebanon with the process of reconstruction.
Araghchi and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun discussed the ties between their two nations, along with the most recent regional and international developments.
Araghchi stated that Iran is ready to enhance its relations with Lebanon in all sectors on the basis of mutual respect and common interests.
He also conveyed the willingness of Iranian companies to assist the Lebanese government in its reconstruction efforts.
Araghchi further voiced Iran's support for the national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon and for dialogue among the Lebanese ethnic and political groups with the purpose of reaching national consensus and settling the country's problems.
For his part, Aoun highlighted his government's policy of promotion of relations with all countries.
He also voiced Lebanon's readiness to broaden friendly ties with Iran in different fields.
