Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has decided on the participation of Finland's Defence Forces in international training and exercises in 2026.

The international training and exercise plan for 2026 includes 122 exercises or exercise frameworks in Finland and abroad.

"With active training and exercises we can prove our defence capability and further develop the operational and other capabilities required for this. As a NATO member, Finland's national exercises and participation in international exercises are a key component of the Alliance's common deterrence and defence. At the same time, we are drawing on our own special strengths, that is, the education, training and exercise system based on the training of conscripts," Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen says.

Finland's NATO membership, deepening defence cooperation with the United States, Sweden, Norway, the United Kingdom and other important allies, and the changes in the security environment have wide impacts on the international training and exercises of the Defence Forces.

"In the coming years the focus of our training and exercises will be on developing the operational capability and readiness as part of the Alliance, and on training and exercises with the allies specified in the operations plans. A particular focus will also be on training and exercises of the sustained presence of NATO, which means the Multi Corps Land Component Command MCLCC to be established in Mikkeli and the Forward Land Forces FLF to be placed in Lapland. In practice, the presence and exercises of the allies in Finland will take place almost daily and, more and more often, also on long-term basis," Minister Häkkänen says.

The Defence Forces will provide more information about the training and exercises closer to the date of each event.
