MANILA -- The "Atin Ito" civilian mission is now sailing back to Manila after wrapping up a successful mission to Pag-asa Island in the West Philippine Sea (WPS), the Philippine Navy (PN) said Thursday.
"The Navy will continue to monitor the situation and coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure the convoy's safe return to Manila by its expected arrival at around 4 o'clock in the afternoon on May 30, 2025," PN spokesperson for the WPS Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad said in a message to reporters.
As of Thursday afternoon, the Navy said the civilian convoy's main ship, T/S Kapitan Felix Oca, is "maintaining a steady course and speed" on its way back, with the Philippine Coast Guard's BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702) escorting it at a distance.
Meanwhile, the China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel 21549 was observed trailing at approximately 4.2 nautical miles off the starboard quarter of the T/S Kapitan Felix Oca.
He added that the PN and the Armed Forces of the Philippines reiterated their full support to the group after completing its mission.
"The Navy remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the convoy throughout its journey in the WPS. It continues to monitor developments in the area, noting the routine presence of CCG and maritime militia vessels, but with no indication of imminent aggression or escalation. Western Naval Command remains vigilant, with contingency measures in place should the situation require further action," Trinidad said. (PNA)
