MANILA -- The Department of National Defense (DND) on Thursday said it would continue performing its mandate of protecting the country's sovereignty.
This came as Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. submitted his courtesy resignation to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
"Secretary Gilberto C. Teodoro Jr. has submitted his courtesy resignation to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. this morning and he assures the public that the Department of National Defense and its bureaus, especially the Armed Forces of the Philippines, will continue to fulfill its mandate of upholding our sovereignty and territorial integrity," the DND said in a statement.
The DND chief also assured the continuity of public service in support of national development during this time of transition.
Teodoro's move is in response to President Marcos' directive for all Cabinet members to tender their courtesy resignations, as part of efforts to "recalibrate his administration" following the result of the May 12 midterm elections. (PNA)
