MANILA -- The Philippine Army (PA) on Monday said its ongoing modernization program and training exercises with foreign allies are geared toward ensuring it can defeat armed drones and other modern threats.
"These are all part of our modernization efforts to adapt to the modern challenges," Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said.
He did not specify the kind of equipment the Army is looking to counter such threats for security reasons.
Dema-ala said armed drones and other emerging threats are extensively studied and discussed during exercises conducted with the Philippines' military allies.
"During bilateral and multilateral exercises, these are all part of subject matter expert exchanges to train our personnel on these new (technologies)," he said.
"It's always been the plan of the Army to be responsive to these new threats and to be a cross-domain capable."
The drone threat came into being following the successful use of drones as weapons by both Ukraine and Russia in their more than three-year conflict. (PNA)
