President Gitanas Nausėda took part in the presidential panel at the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Business Forum in Warsaw.
According to the Lithuanian leader, many important projects were started—and completed—under the banner of the Three Seas Initiative, including the development of the defense industry, dual-use cross-border transport corridors, energy modernization, digital transformation, and strengthening cyber resilience.
"Lithuania's ambitious goal of spending more than 5% of its gross domestic product on defense from next year creates opportunities to boost defense industry through new military and dual-use projects, especially considering that most of the Three Seas countries represent the eastern flank of NATO," President Gitanas Nausėda underlined.
The Head of State also outlined Lithuania's path towards fully ending its the energy dependence on Russia.
"A decade ago, Lithuania built an LNG terminal—the first in the region—and transformed itself into a regional gas supplier, with most of its LNG imports coming from the United States of America. This year, the Baltic States completed synchronization with the continental Europe electricity grids through Poland," Gitanas Nausėda emphasized.
This year, Lithuania will significantly improve its transport connections with the rest of Europe by building a modern Via Baltica highway, while Rail Baltica railway project is also in the making.
"However, we must also ensure the protection of critical regional infrastructure, continue advancing military mobility and other strategic projects, and fully leverage the potential of artificial intelligence. Only by strengthening the region's resilience can we create favorable conditions for business development," the President said during the high-level debate at the 3SI Business Forum.
According to Gitanas Nausėda, 3SI has an enormous potential for businesses to tap into: the rapid economic growth of our region together with skilled workforce ensures high yielding and safe investment returns, especially in higher value-added sectors.
Lithuania has already established itself as a global fintech hub, is among the leaders in cybersecurity, and known for scientific and industrial laser technologies, life science products. Our green-tech and mil-tech ecosystems are also on the rise.
As each Three Seas Initiative Business Forum gathers more business representatives from all around the world, the vision of a more interconnected and prosperous region becomes a reality, the President pointed out. Gitanas Nausėda wished the participants of the Forum to continue deepening strategic partnerships and mobilizing both private and public capital to make the next decade even more successful.
Following the Business Forum, the Head of State will take part in the Three Seas Initiative Summit.
The Three Seas Initiative brings together thirteen European Union countries located between the Baltic, Black, and Adriatic Seas. Its strategic partners include the United States, Germany, the European Commission, and Japan, while Ukraine and Moldova hold associated country status.
