The Finnish boat manufacturer Marine Alutech Oy Ab has concluded a contract with the Lithuanian and Latvian ministries of defence for a procurement programme to research and develop fast multirole attack craft.

The contract is a continuation of cooperation between the governments of Finland, Lithuania and Latvia that started in 2023.

"This is excellent news, and yet another sign of the ever-strengthening cooperation in the Baltic Sea region. The Finnish defence administration contributed to the signing of the contract by sharing with the cooperation partners its knowledge of the vessel class in question," Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen said.

Under the contract, Lithuania will procure two fast multirole attack craft from Marine Alutech. The craft will make a significant contribution to the regional response to threats in the Baltic Sea region. The craft are able to operate in extremely shallow waters and enable rapid response to a wide range of threats on the water and on land.

Some parts will be manufactured in the customer countries, while the final assembly will take place in Finland.
