
PH, US troops hold socio-civic programs ahead of Balikatan

MANILA -- Filipino and American forces renovated a school building in Bulacan and held a medical and dental mission in Cagayan as part of socio-civic programs being carried out ahead of this year's Balikatan exercises.
The renovation at the Barangay Pulong Sampaloc Elementary School in Doña Remedios Trinidad town in Bulacan is nearing completion, Palace Press Officer Claire Castro announced Tuesday in a press briefing in Malacañang.
Castro emphasized that the goal of the initiative was to create a more comfortable and conducive learning environment for students."
"Patunay dito ito ang commitment ng AFP at ng US Armed Forces para makatulong sa lokal na komunidad," she said. (This is proof of the commitment of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the US Armed Forces to help the local community)," she said.
Meanwhile, Philippine and US troops also held a medical mission in Barangay Dagupan in Lal-lo, Cagayan where 129 residents received medical services and dental examinations
The Palace official said the activity supports the broader goals of the Balikatan Exercises, particularly in uplifting local communities.
The annual Balikatan Exercises aim to strengthen interoperability between Philippine and US forces and often include humanitarian and community development components.
This year's Balikatan drills are set to start on April 21. (PNA)
