On 7 March in Munich, the Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy met with Florian Herrmann, head of the Bavarian State Chancellery and Bavarian Minister of State for Federal and European Affairs and the Media. The meeting focused on bilateral economic cooperation with the Free State of Bavaria, bilateral security and defense relations between Lithuania and Germany, and support for Ukraine.

Budrys emphasized that Lithuania's decision to allocate 5-6% of GDP annually to defense between the years of 2026 and 2030 opened up additional opportunities for the Bavarian defense industry and other business sectors to invest in Lithuania. According to Budrys, there is also untapped potential for carrying out joint projects in the field of technology and strengthening cooperation in the fields of life sciences, biotechnology and laser industry, engineering, and automotive and electronics industry.

"Lithuania and Bavaria will be united by another factor: the 122nd Mechanised Infantry Battalion from Bavaria will arrive in Lithuania. I believe we can expand security cooperation to other areas, such as the economy, education, and culture," said the Foreign Minister.

The Foreign Minister underlined that, as Ukraine faces war, European unity and German leadership are more important than ever. Budrys noted that it was necessary to continue supporting Ukraine, strengthening the EU's defense capabilities, and defense industry, seeking Russia's accountability, and tightening sanctions against Russia.
