Taskforce Drones of the DDPS invites industry to an information event
Swiss Government
Bern, 28.02.2025 -- The Taskforce Drones invites companies to an information event on the topic of small drones on 28 February 2025. The event will focus on information of the Taskforce Drones, insights into potential forms of cooperation with public authorities and export law. The Taskforce Drones aims to be able to develop small and medium-sized drones independently in Switzerland and deploy them in the Armed Forces.
The information event offers industry the opportunity to find out about the Taskforce Drones and cooperation with public authorities. Representatives from armasuisse and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO will speak at the event on the procurement process and export law. Participants will then be given the opportunity to address their questions to the competent authorities and to get in touch directly with the responsible persons.
Strengthening defence capability and Swiss industry
The direct exchange with industry enables the Taskforce Drones to integrate potential partners in the Swiss Armed Forces' skill building in the area of drones at an early stage. This will include subcomponents, overall systems and the preparation of test and training options. Switzerland already has a strong technology base in the area of smaller drones and relevant key technologies. Through mutual dialogue, it is hoped that synergies and partnerships will also be encouraged between the companies and the drone ecosystem Switzerland thus further strengthened. Together with universities and industry, the Taskforce Drones is making a contribution to the Armed Forces' Vision 2030 - strengthening defence capabilities by enabling Switzerland to successfully prevent or fend off attacks.
The Taskforce Drones
As a reaction to continuing global conflicts and growing threats, the DDPS founded the Taskforce Drones in June 2024. The clients are the Chief of the Armed Forces Thomas Süssli and the National Armaments Director Urs Loher. Thomas Rothacher, Deputy National Armaments Director and Head of the competence sector armasuisse Science and Technology is responsible for management. The goal of the Taskforce Drones is to accelerate skill building in the Armed Forces in the area of drones, to produce drone solutions as far as possible in Switzerland and to thus minimise dependencies on other countries.
