While in Washington, Minister Sikorski met with his counterpart, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Director of the National Economic Council Kevin Hassett, and President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor Michael Waltz.
The meetings covered transatlantic cooperation, both in the military and economic context. The talks focused on international security, with particular regard to the situation in Ukraine and in the Middle East.
Foreign Minister Sikorski also met with representatives of think tanks, including CEPA, CSIS, the Atlantic Council, Hudson Institute, and the American Enterprise Institute. He also took part in the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), an annual event bringing together key representatives of conservative political and analytical centres in the US. During the conference, he also visited the stand of the United Against Nuclear Iran organisation, where the Iranian Shahed 136 drone, shot down by Ukrainian forces, was put on display. The Polish government, in cooperation with Ukraine, took part in the operation to transport the drone to the United States.
On 24 February, on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski will take part in the emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine and a briefing of the UN Security Council in New York, during which, upon request of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, he will deliver a speech on behalf of the whole union. While in New York, the Polish top diplomat will also meet with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the community of young professionals of Polish origin.
