International cooperation
Croatia is deploying a Howitzer artillery battery to the NATO Multinational Battle Group Lithuania in the beginning of next year at the latest. The topic was settled at a bilateral meeting between Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė and Minister of Defence of Croatia Ivan Anušić at Munich on February 15. Also, Ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine, EU and NATO agendas as far as it concerns the United States' stance, and other issues of importance.
"We are grateful to Croatia for having presence in the NATO enhanced forward land force unit ensuring security of the Baltic states and the whole NATO's eastern flank for years, as well as for joining the Demining Capability Coalition at our invitation," said Minister of National Defence Dovilė Šakalienė.
According to Minister of National Defence, she and her counterpart fully shared views on Ukraine and the U.S. stance. NATO and the U.S. need to understand the U.S. message correctly: debts have to be repaid and defence spending has to be stepped up in terms of strengthening the armed forces and defence industry alike.
Croatia deployed troops to the NATO Multinational Battle Group in 2018 and 2020. Its latest rotation served in 2023. The NATO Multinational Battle Group was deployed in Lithuania in2017 as a response to the Russian aggression Ukraine. The most significant contributor and the Framework Nation of the unit is Germany.
