On February 3-9 NATO Air Policing Detachment in the Baltic states was three times alerted to intercept aircraft of the Russian Federation violating international aviation regulations in international airspace over the Baltic Sea.
On February 3 the NATO air policing fighter aircraft were scrambled to intercept two SU-24M flying in international airspace over the Baltic Sea from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. Their onboard transponders were switched off, no flight plans had been pre-filed, the crews were not maintaining radio communication.
On February 3 NATO fighter jets intercepted one IL-20RT flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia through international airspace over the Baltic Sea. Its onboard transponder was switched off, the crew had no pre-filed flight plan and were not maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
On February 4 NATO fighter aircraft were alerted to identify and escort one IL-20 flying in international airspace from the mainland of the Russian Federation to Kaliningrad with its onboard transponder switched off, without the flight plan, maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre.
