MANILA -- The Philippine Army (PA) on Friday announced the reactivation of the Office of the Chief Infantry, as part of its efforts to transform all of its infantry units into a formidable fighting force.

In a statement Friday, PA spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said reactivation rites took place Thursday at the Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, with PA chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido serving as the presiding officer.

"The reactivation of the Office of the Chief Infantry marks a strategic step towards strengthening our force structure and enhancing the capabilities of our infantry units," Galido said.

The unit was first deactivated in 2004.

He added that the Office of the Chief Infantry will serve as the "nerve center for planning force design, capability development, and the seamless integration of doctrines into operations" that will ensure that infantry units will serve as a formidable and adaptable fighting force in support of the military's strategic shift to external security operations.

Galido also said the reactivation of the Office of the Chief Infantry reaffirms the Army's dedication to "sustaining programs and innovations that will enhance operational readiness and effectiveness."

It will be headed by Col. Victorino Seño.

The move follows the December 2024 activation of the Project Management and Modernization Center.

These are among the units activated by the PA as part of its thrust to restructure the organization into a modern, cross domain-capable and multi-mission ground force. (PNA)
