The President visited Litgrid: Lithuania is fully prepared for successful synchronization
President of the Republic of Lithuania
February 07, 2025
President Gitanas Nausėda visited Litgrid's System Control and Data Center on Friday, two days before the Baltic electricity grids are set to be synchronized with the Continental European Grid.
The visit concludes the President's series of review visits to evaluate the country's preparedness for synchronization. The synchronization of the Baltic electricity grids with the Continental European Grid will take place this Sunday, 9 February.
"Over the past months, I have visited key sites critical to synchronization: the Alytus synchronous compensator, which ensures voltage stability, and the Elektrėnai Complex, which is responsible for balancing the power system and electricity generation capacity. Here, at this power system control center, the most vital aspect of successful synchronization—the Lithuanian power system's frequency—will be permanently controlled after synchronization. I am confident and assured that Lithuania has done everything necessary and is fully prepared for successful synchronization," the Head of State underlined.
President Gitanas Nausėda pointed out that Lithuania is the only country in the region to have carried out a full-scale isolated operation test. This means that Lithuania has successfully tested the most challenging scenario.
The Head of State emphasized the importance of maintaining continuous preparedness and strengthening the resilience of critical energy infrastructure. The topic of energy infrastructure resilience will also be discussed with Baltic leaders during their visit to Lithuania on Sunday.
