
133 Reds, supporters surrender in Mimaropa since January 2024

MANILA -- A total of 133 members and supporters of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) have surrendered to different police units in the Mimaropa region since January 2024, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 4B said Thursday.
Mimaropa is comprised of the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.
Of the 133 surrenderers, 10 were listed in the periodic status report (PSR) while the rest were identified as members, supporters, and militiamen.
Among the latest to surrender are "Ka Cente", 60; "Ka Vensor", 58, and "Ka Dario", 33, former members of the dismantled Kilusang Larangan Guerilla-Mark Anthony Velasco (KLG-MAV), Sub-Regional Military Area (SRMA)-4D, as they turned themselves in to members of the 403rd B MC Regional Mobile Force Battalion personnel in Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro on Jan. 20.
The three rebels also surrendered a hand grenade.
"This success highlights the unwavering collaboration between the PNP (Philippine National Police), AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), and partner agencies in our united effort to end local communist terrorism and achieve lasting peace in the region," PRO 4B chief Brig. Gen. Roger Quesada in a statement.
He encouraged the remaining communist rebels to return to the fold of the law.
Quesada also commended the efforts of the police force and all government agencies concerned in the region and reiterated the significant role of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) in the government's successful counter-insurgency campaign.
"Be assured that the government has prepared livelihood and reintegration assistance to support all returnees in beginning new and better chapters of their lives with their loved ones," he added. (PNA)
