MANILA -- The Philippine Army (PA) said communist insurgents are no longer capable of disrupting or influencing the 2025 midterm elections.

"Sa kasalukuyang estado ng NPA (New People's Army), eto ay wala nang kakayahan para maimpluwensyahan ang takbo ng nalalapit na halalan ngayong taon (with the current state of the NPA, the communist insurgents no longer have the capability to influence this year's election)," Army spokesperson Col. Louie Dema-ala said in a message to reporters Tuesday night.

Dema-ala was referring to earlier reports where combined military and civilian efforts have succeeded in dismantling 88 out of the 89 NPA guerilla fronts nationwide, leaving only a weakened guerilla front still operational.

Despite this, he said Army units in the field remain on alert and will still conduct internal security operations to ensure that this year's elections will be peaceful and orderly.

"Wala po tayo let up na gagawin at patuloy natin tutugisin ang mga natitirang mga lider ng armadong grupo (there will be no letup and we will continue with pursuit operations aimed at the remaining leaders of this armed group)," Dema-ala said.

With the NPA crumbling to pieces, Dema-ala urged all remaining communist insurgents and their allies to immediately surrender, lay down their arms and contribute to initiatives geared toward national development. (PNA)
