MANILA -- Philippine Army (PA) commander Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) units will play a key role in the military's shift from internal security operations to external defense missions.
The Army chief made the remark during Tuesday's second semester conference and workshop for division operations officers and division CAA affairs office held at Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City, the PA said in a news release Thursday.
"As force multipliers, CAA units are envisioned to play a crucial role in the conduct of territorial defense operations. CAA units, which are under the operational control of PA infantry divisions, are traditionally involved in the implementation of internal security campaigns (in) the countryside," Galido said.
CAA units also serve as first responders during disasters and calamities.
"As part of the joint force, it is our mandate to defend the land from enemy intrusion. We intend to accomplish this task through preparation, in the matter of how we mobilize and sustain large-scale forces in a prolonged conflict," Galido said. (PNA)
