MANILA -- Units from the Philippine Fleet (PF), Fleet-Marine Ready Force and reservists from the Philippine Navy have kicked off their first-ever unified exercise aimed at enhancing the operational readiness and interoperability of the participants.
In a statement Monday, Philippine Fleet public affairs office chief Lt. Giovanni Badidles said the drills will run until Dec. 7.
The "Exercise Pagbubuklod, Pagsasama and Pagsisikap 2024" was launched aboard the BRP Tarlac (LD-601) docked at the Naval Operating Base Subic in Zambales on Nov. 28.
Newly appointed PF commander, Rear Admiral Joe Anthony Orbe, told very participating units to treat every exercise "as if it is the real thing, the real world."
"So as the Commander of the PF, concurrently the officer conducting the exercise, I would like for us to be able (to) maximize all the learnings, all the experiences, identify the gaps, test our doctrines and improve. It is (the) only way to move forward," Orbe said in a news release.
The exercises are being conducted both in-port and at sea, including in-port/harbor activities such as subject matter expert exchanges, tabletop exercises and mission planning.
There are also field training exercises and at-sea events, where participants will execute the plans developed during the earlier planning and in-port phases.
The drills are aimed at beefing up the PF's proficiency and strengthening the capabilities of the Navy in addressing evolving maritime challenges, Badidles said. (PNA)
