MANILA -- Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. has expressed the military's appreciation for Japan's continued support for its capacity-building efforts and humanitarian assistance in recent disasters that struck the country.

The military chief made the remark during the courtesy visit of Japan Air Self Defense Force (JASDF) chief of staff Gen. Uchikura Hiroaki at the AFP headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City on Thursday.

"During the visit, Gen. Brawner expressed gratitude for Japan's steadfast support to the Philippines through capacity-building initiatives and humanitarian assistance. Both leaders also committed to foster mutual understanding and shared defense goals for the benefit of their nations," the AFP said in a statement Thursday night.

The meeting, it said, reflects the AFP's effort to deepen engagements and strategic cooperation with like-minded nations, advancing shared commitment to a free and stable Indo-Pacific Region.

Uchikura also visited the Philippine Air Force (PAF) headquarters in Villamor Air Base in Pasay City where he called on Air Force commander Lt. Gen. Stephen Parreño.

He was presented with an honorary PAF Gold Wings badge in recognition of his exceptional contributions to strengthening bilateral defense cooperation between the Philippines and Japan.

"The visit underscored the deepening partnership between the two air forces. During their discussions, both leaders reaffirmed their mutual commitment to advancing regional security and stability. They also explored plans for regular exchanges, joint training exercises, and expanded collaboration in areas of mutual interest," the PAF said in a separate statement. (PNA)
