On October 21 - 27 detachment of the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states were scrambled six times to intercept aircraft flying in violation of international aviation regulations.
On October 21 aircraft of the NATO Baltic Air Policing Detachment were scrambled to intercept one AN-72 flying from Kaliningrad through international airspace. It had no pre-filed flight plan, the crew kept the onboard transponder switched off but maintained radio communication with the regional air traffic control centre. The alert scramble was requalified as a training one.
On October 22 NATO fighter jets identified and escorted one IL-20 on the way from the mainland Russia to Kaliningrad. It had no pre-filed flight plan, the onboard transponder was switched off, but the crew was maintaining radio communication with the regional air traffic control.

Its onboard transponder was switched on, the crew maintained radio communication but no plan had been pre-filed for the flight.
On October 26 NATO fighter jets were scrambled to intercept one IL-20 flying from Kaliningrad to mainland Russia. Its onboard transponder was off, the crew was not maintaining radio communication and kept the onboard transponder switched off.
