Minister of National Defence L. Kasčiūnas to attend NATO Defence Ministerial in Brussels

Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas departs for Brussels where he will attend the NATO Defence Ministers' meeting on October 17-18. NATO Defence Ministers will address the most pressing NATO security and defence topics, particularly focusing on the new NATO defence plans, air defence situation and assistance to Ukraine. For the first time in history the NATO Defence Ministerial will be attended by Defence Ministers of the Indo-Pacific partners (Australia, Japan, Republic of Korea and the New Zealand).

In his remarks at the Defence Ministerial Minister of National Defence L. Kasčiūnas will touch upon further implementation of the NATO defence plans, more defence spending Alliance-wide, airspace infringements, and especially, assistance to Ukraine. He will attend the NATO-Ukraine Council working dinner, join the NATO colleagues to debate the collective military capability development concept, attend other meetings.

Minister is planned to meet with Minister of Defence of Finland Antti Häkkänen, Deputy Minister of National Defence of Korea Seonho Kim, Minister of Defence of Ukraine Rustem Umerov, Minister of Defence of Sweden Pål Jonson, and Minister of Defence of Norway Bjørn Arild Gram bilaterally on the margins. Minister will also attend the meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, discuss transformation and action plans of further involvement in Iraq and Syria.

L. Kasčiūnas will chair the 3+3 Defence Ministers' meeting for Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and framework nations of the enhanced Forward Presence in the Baltic states: Germany, United Kingdom, Canada.
