Royal New Zealand Navy

9 October 2024

The latest update of our response in Samoa at 3.00pm NZDT

    - More than 20 additional NZDF personnel will arrive in Samoa on Wednesday afternoon, including Deputy Chief of Navy Commodore Andrew Brown, uncrewed system operators and staff to support beach services.
    - This brings the number of NZDF personnel in Samoa to nearly 50
    - As well as meeting Samoan Government officials, New Zealand officials have met with the Chief of Poutasi Village and owner of Sinalai Resort (where the ship is located) to hear his concerns and provide any further support and assistance as necessary.
    - Now that the people involved in the initial incident are safe, the focus has shifted to mitigating possible environmental impacts and working with the Samoan Government to reduce any impacts as much as possible.
