Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas had a meeting with Parliamentary State Secretary Thomas Hitschler, Chief of Defence Gen Carsten Breuer and Parliamentary Budget Committee visiting Lithuania today.

"We have a clear plan on how the German brigade units arrive for the permanent presence next year and we are following that plan. The principles outlined in the Roadmap Action Plan of December 2023 remain the key guidelines and the ongoing infrastructure development is on track. Our enemies are only sensitive to the logic of force, therefore we need to amass corresponding capabilities and commit to the deterrence through denial strategy which is based on a robust defence from the first inches," said Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas to the German Brigade delegation at Rokantiškės

Minister also thanked the guest MPs for the consideration and taking the time to visit Lithuanian, as implementation of the project required a wide involvement and cooperation from across the political field.

"Our visit demonstrates the particular importance the Bundeswehr attaches to the subject of Brigade stationing in Lithuania. Like Boris Pistorius put it, "Your security is our security," wherefore I am particularly pleased to the progress made on infrastructure development, integration and planning here," said Parliamentary State Secretary Thomas Hitschler.

Constructions of the Rūdninkai campus where the main portion of the German Brigade will be deployed kicked off in August, other projects to get civilian and military infrastructure in place are also underway.

"Together with 23 members of the Budget Committee of the Bundestag we were briefed today on the current status of preparation for hosting the German Brigade in Lithuania and progress on the plan implementation. Our mutual investments in our security underline the long road we have walked together already in the right direction. Lithuania and Germany stand shoulder to shoulder in defence of NATO space , while NATO Article 5 is a commitment to always stand up for each other. Our Brigade in Lithuania is a piece of this promise," said Inspector General of the Bundeswehr Gen Carsten Breuer.

The Brigade's initial command element deployed in Vilnius back in April. Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius and Minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas signed an intergovernmental defence cooperation agreement in Berlin which was ratified by the Lithuanian Seimas last week.
