On 16 September, during a visit to Chișinău, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Gabrielius Landsbergis, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi.
At the meeting, the Foreign Ministers discussed Lithuania's expert support to Moldovan institutions and bilateral strategic communication projects. The Lithuanian side congratulated Moldova on the opening of EU accession negotiations and expressed support for the country's reforms. The threat of hybrid attacks by Russia in the run-up to the country's presidential elections and the referendum on joining the EU was highlighted.
"Russia continues to seek to destabilise the internal situation of Moldova and hinder its European integration aspirations; therefore, we must believe in the European future of Moldova and help it fully. I am glad that after becoming an EU candidate country, Moldova firmly stepped on the path of reforms and consolidated the efforts of its political elite to achieve goals on the path to EU integration," said Landsbergis.
Landsbergis assured that Lithuania would consistently continue to support Moldova on its path to the EU.
"Lithuania is ready to share its transformation experience with Moldova and help prepare for the intensive process of EU enlargement negotiations," noted Landsbergis.
Lithuania provides expert support to Moldova in transposing EU law and assists in creating the information incident analysis centre. At the end of the meeting, the heads of Lithuanian and Moldovan diplomacy underlined the strong determination of both countries to cooperate, assist Ukraine, and strengthen security in the region.
Lithuania's Foreign Minister Landsbergis is visiting Moldova on 16-17 September. The Foreign Minister will attend the ministerial conference of the Moldova Partnership Platform to discuss Moldova's progress in implementing reforms, support needs and Lithuania's support.
