President of the Republic of Lithuania
August 27, 2024
President Gitanas Nausėda, together with the Latvian and Estonian Presidents, participated in Moldova's Independence Day celebrations in Chişinău on Tuesday. Gitanas Nausėda addressed the Moldovan people, wishing them a successful integration into the European Union, which has brought progress and prosperity to Lithuania.
In his address the President underlined that Moldova is now standing at the crossroad where its future will be decided, and it is up to the people of the country to decide what it will be. President Gitanas Nausėda said that Lithuania saw this chance and went for it, choosing the European Union, NATO, and the great Euro-Atlantic family of freedom-loving countries.
"Lithuania's European Union membership has become a real success story, and I wish for Moldova to take this chance too. 20 years on, Lithuania has undergone a radical transformation in many ways. We made a huge leap forward and became more prosperous, innovative and stronger. Today, while being a proud member of the European Union family Lithuania also remains Lithuanian. A better, stronger version of itself. An independent state that is not indifferent to the well-being of our neighbours and friends," the Lithuanian leader spoke.
The Head of State encouraged the people of Moldova to stay on the European path, to implement the necessary reforms and to make their country stronger.
"Lithuania is here to help you. We are ready to share our expertise and provide solutions that have already proven right. We will also continue to support you in the field of security and defence. Why are we doing this? The answer is simple: Lithuania wants Moldova to succeed and prosper. We know that Moldova belongs in Europe," the President underlined.
In October this year, Moldova will hold a referendum on its membership in the European Union.
