Deputy Defence Minister Martin Vojtašovič along with his colleagues from the SVK MOD completed a working meeting with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) leadership in Luxembourg. The central theme of the meeting was the delivery of the F-16 Beddown Infrastructure Programme at Sliač Air Base. The SVK MOD delegation and the NSPA leadership agreed that Slovakia will complete construction and reconstruction works to Sliač Air Base on its own.

Speaking from Luxembourg, Deputy Defence Minister Martin Vojtašovič said: "We held very fair and direct talks. NSPA understands our position that we need to complete building Sliač Air Base as soon as possible. Now it's up to us to speed up the processes at the national level and to have the construction and reconstruction works fully under control."

Sliač Air Base, the strategic operating base for fighter jets, needs to be upgraded in order to prepare it for the arrival of the Slovak Air Force F-16 fighter jet fleet. The first two F-16 fighter jets, displaying the Slovak Air Force markings, will arrive from the USA in a month and will remain at Kuchyňa Air Base until such time as the F-16 beddown infrastructure projects at Sliač Air Base are completed.
