Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna's comment about Russia's plan regarding sea borders
Republic of Estonia - Ministry of Foreign Affairs
22.05.2024
Through media reports, we have received information on Russia's alleged plans to unilaterally shift the borders of sea areas in the Baltic Sea.
We are determining the specific circumstances and we are in close contact with Finland and Lithuania. At first glance, it seems to be an absurd notion. Russia is party to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and we expect their steps to be in line with the convention.
At the moment, it cannot be ruled out that the report is an attempt to sow confusion. We will not allow any confusion; we are thoroughly analysing all possible and actual steps and the international law regulating this area, and we are coordinating our actions with our Allies and partners.
