Last week, Prime Minister Mark Rutte visited Dutch troops in Lithuania, where the Netherlands contributes a force of 270 - 300 military personnel to NATO's enhanced Forward Presence.

"The border of NATO territory is right here. It is up to us to defend this border and that is why your presence here is so important", said the Prime Minister.

First Chinook helicopter bound for Iraq

The first of 3 Chinook transport helicopters has arrived in Iraq by Antonov An-124 aircraft. The helicopter is destined for the helicopter detachment that is contributing to NATO Mission Iraq (NMI), which is currently taking place in the country.

Royal Netherlands Navy vessel headed to Red Sea for supply and medical tasks

From early May until mid-August, HNLMS Karel Doorman will take part in the EU's Operation Aspides in the Red Sea. The logistic support ship will be deployed for supply tasks, refuelling and the provision of medical care. These capabilities will also be available to units taking part in the American-led Operation Prosperity Guardian. Both operations are aimed at contributing to security and freedom of navigation in the area.
