The U.S. Congress passed a piece of Government funding legislation earlier this week which includes USD 228 million for the Baltic Security Initiative (BSI), one third of the amount is dedicated to Lithuania. The United States aid is aimed to support critical capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces: air defence, maritime situational awareness, ammunition, strengthening the regional long-range artillery capability.

"The United States is Lithuania's strategic partner and one of the key Allies for the Baltic region security. The Americans are actively contributing to the Baltic deterrence measures, strengthening the regional security and stability," says minister of National Defence Laurynas Kasčiūnas.

The United States actively contributes military personnel, equipment ta and finance in support of our defence. The U.S. is also one of the main partners of Lithuania in defence equipment acquisition. Contracts on HIMARS and AMRAAM missiles were signed with the U.S. side in the recent years, while earlier defence acquisition contracts cover 500 armored Joint Light Tactical Vehicles JLTV, four Black Hawk helicopters, Switchblade loitering ammunition. Apart from that, Lithuania has also been acquiring the Javelin antitank-rocket system and different communication equipment from the United States for years. U.S. Army battalions have been rotated in Lithuania since 2019.

In 2023 the United States allocated approx. USD 200 million to Lithuania alone in defence support via different mechanisms, including the Baltic Security Initiative.
