"What is going on in Gaza has exceeded the limits of tolerance"

Presidency Of The Republic Of Turkey

09.03.2024

Speaking at the General Assembly of the Science Dissemination Foundation, President Erdoğan said: "What has been going on in Gaza, particularly since October 7, has already exceeded the limits of tolerance. Backed by the unlimited military and diplomatic support of western powers, Israel, which is a terror state, has been carrying out an all-out policy of genocide against our Palestinian brothers and sisters."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan attended the General Assembly of the Science Dissemination Foundation in Istanbul.

Speaking at the General Assembly, President Erdoğan drew attention to the upcoming month of Ramadan, and said: "We will try to mark in the best manner possible this holy month, the beginning of which is mercy, the middle is forgiveness, and the end is salvation from the hellfire. However, we are welcoming Ramadan during a period, in which grave humanitarian tragedies have been taking place in many parts of our kindred geography, Gaza in particular."

"ISRAEL HAS BEEN CARRYING OUT AN ALL-OUT POLICY OF GENOCIDE"

"Backed by the unlimited military and diplomatic support of western powers, Israel, which is a terror state, has been carrying out an all-out policy of genocide against our Palestinian brothers and sisters," President Erdoğan stated, underscoring that as a result of Israel's attacks, which have been directly targeting civilians, over 32 thousand Palestinians have been martyred and 72 thousand others have been injured.

Further stressing that nearly two million people have been forced to leave their homes, President Erdoğan said that mosques, universities, schools and civilian residential units have fallen into ruins, and that the world is faced with a barbarism whereby even innocents waiting in queue to receive food are murdered.

"We have witnessed such scenes that it is impossible for someone, who has a bit of humanity inside, or for a state, which respects international law in the minimum manner possible, to do all this. With the crimes of humanity they have committed in Gaza, Netanyahu and his administration simmering with hatred have added their names as 'present-day Nazis' next to Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pol Pot, Franco and other modern era murderers," President Erdoğan said.

"ISLAMIC WORLD HAS FAILED TO FULFILL ITS DUTY OF BROTHERHOOD TO THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE"

Noting that Türkiye is and will continue to do what is necessary to bring the murderers, who have already been convicted in the conscience of humanity, to account before international law, President Erdoğan stated: "In the 155 days since October 7, we have encountered many shameful incidents that have broken, if not torn our hearts out, and have reddened our faces as humans."

Stating that they have seen that international organizations, human rights organizations and media outlets are useless when it is Israel in question, President Erdoğan continued as follows: "We have all together witnessed how the Universal Declaration of Human Rights has become a piece of paper when it comes to the right to live of Palestinian children, women and innocent civilians. Also, this period has shown us that the Islamic world still has very significant shortcomings, especially in terms of acting in unity, putting result-yielding pressure on Israel and its supporters, and of preventing oppression and massacre. Unfortunately, the nearly 2 billion-populated Islamic world has failed to duly fulfill its duty of brotherhood to the Palestinian people. Obviously, a hard work has been carried out and many efforts have been exerted in terms of diplomacy. However, the innocent children in Gaza could not be prevented from dying either of hunger or by the bullets and bombs dropped over them."

"WE HAVE MOBILIZED ALL OUR MEANS FOR THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE"

Describing the Muslim-alienating structure of the United Nations Security Council and the global system as one of the many reasons of this situation, President Erdoğan said: "Muslims are seen as stepchildren in the current order built by the victors of the Second World War. Türkiye, with its cry that 'the world is bigger than five', objects to this role cast for and imposed on us as well."

Stating that they as the country and the nation have mobilized all their means for the Palestinian people since the very first day of Israel's attacks on Gaza, President Erdoğan said that he has raised the Palestinian issue and the situation of the people of Gaza during the talks he has made with foreign leaders since October 7.

Further noting that they have been the voice of Palestine and Gaza at all the international meetings they have attended, President Erdoğan went on to say: "In a period, during which almost everyone, including those fond of Israel in our country, is racing to label Hamas as a 'terrorist organization', we are openly objecting to this. We have baldly declared to the entire world that no one can cast such a stain upon Palestinian fighters who defend their territories, honor and people. We have used our recently-improving relations with Egyptian officials to deliver aid to Gaza."

"TÜRKİYE HAS SENT 40,000 TONS OF HUMANITARIAN AID TO GAZA"

Pointing out that the total amount of the humanitarian aid Türkiye has sent to the region has reached 40 thousand tons, President Erdoğan underscored that they will hopefully increase the amount of the aid, which has included 53 ambulances, 1,551 generators, eight field hospitals and three thousand tents, in Ramadan, and said: "The only country that defends the Palestinian cause at the highest level is unequivocally Türkiye."

Also reminding his visit to the US 21 years ago as the Chairman of AK Party before taking office, President Erdoğan noted that when he was told during that visit that Hamas was a terrorist organization, he explained them that Hamas, on the contrary, was a resistance movement.
