On 6 March in Bucharest, Lithuania's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, met with the Romanian Foreign Minister Luminița-Teodora Odobescu. The Foreign Ministers discussed measures to strengthen deterrence and defence on NATO's eastern flank and how to help Ukraine fight against Russia's aggression.

"Washington's NATO summit requires solutions that strengthen the security of the eastern flank states. Lithuania and Romania's positions on these issues are especially similar. Thus, we must work hand in hand to bring together like-minded people and strive for ambitious solutions," said Landsbergis.

The Foreign Ministers also agreed to seek to ensure a sustainable, predictable and lasting commitment to provide military support for Ukraine.

"We urgently need to find ways to ensure the production of armaments and ammunition and supply Ukraine with them. This is our shared (EU) commitment, which must be fulfilled with the utmost urgency and with the help of EU instruments," said Landsbergis.

"We must continue to work together on the 14th sanctions package containing a strong component of sectoral and individual sanctions," the head of Lithuanian diplomacy said, stressing that sanctions against Belarus must also be tightened, thus preventing the circumvention of sanctions against Russia.

The Foreign Ministers of Lithuania and Romania also expressed their support for Ukraine's and Moldova's aspirations to become members of the European Union. We want to start accession negotiations as soon as possible. It requires the implementation of all the recommendations of the European Commission. Lithuania is ready to contribute to Moldova's capacity development in EU integration.
