** Key points**

The Gaza Strip

• As of 8 January 2024, the total number of UNRWA colleagues killed since the beginning of hosAliAes is 146.

• Since 7 October 2023, up to 1.9 million people (or over 85 per cent of the populaAon) have been displaced across the Gaza Strip, some mulAple Ames. Families are forced to move repeatedly in search of safety.

• As of 8 January, nearly 1.4 million IDPs are sheltering in 155 UNRWA faciliAes across all five governorates of the Gaza Strip, including 160,000 in the north and Gaza City, and nearly 400,000 are in close vicinity of these installaAons and receiving assistance from UNRWA. A total of 1.73 million1 IDPs are receiving assistance from UNRWA. This number has reduced by approximately

150,000 as families were forced to move away from UNRWA faciliAes due to Israeli AuthoriAes' issued evacuaAon orders in the middle area and Khan Younis (south).

The West Bank, including East Jerusalem

§ On 8 January, Israeli Security Forces (ISF) conducted a search and arrest operaAon in Tulkarm, northern West Bank. Armed clashes took place in Tulkarm city, Tulkarm refugee camp and surrounding areas and three PalesAnians were reportedly killed. ISF closed all entrances to the camp.

§ Several ISF search and arrest operaAons leading to confrontaAons with PalesAnians were reported across the West Bank, including operaAons in Nur Shams refugee camp, Qalqiliya Nablus, and other locaAons.

§ On 7 January, the ISF search and arrest operaAon in Jenin city and Jenin refugee camp, northern West Bank, conAnued. On January 7, a PalesAnian died from injuries sustained early in the morning. More than ten injuries were reported following an air strike in Jenin town's Al Shuhada square.

1 This includes nearly 160,000 IDPs in north Gaza and Gaza City governorates as of 12 October. UNRWA's ability to provide humanitarian support and update data in the above areas is severely restricted. The hostilities, Israeli Forces' evacuation orders and the constant search for safer places meant that people are displaced multiple times. UNRWA shelters often provide assistance to registered Palestine Refugees and other members of the community. There are instances where total numbers could be duplicated due to overlapping registrations, this is why we use "estimates" for these fgures.
