On Saturday Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian visited Tehran University and had a meeting with the students and members of student circles.
Tehran (ISNA) - In the meeting, students and representatives of student circles asked questions and expressed their concerns regarding foreign policy, and the top Iranian diplomat explained some of the issues raised.
At the beginning of his speech, Amirabdollahian honored the memory of students martyred at Tehran University on December 7, 1953, the latest developments in occupied Palestine and the attacks by the Zionist regime on women, children and people of Gaza. He also outlined the very unstable conditions of the Zionist regime.
While discussing issues pertaining to the structure of the Foreign Ministry and also the appointments made in the body, the foreign minister answered questions by the students about the communication between the Foreign Ministry and think tanks and the ministry's use of their views, the developments in Afghanistan, the position of Chabahar in the transit routes of the region, and the developments in relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Azerbaijan as well as other neighboring countries, the 2030 environmental document and the latest state of the JCPOA.
Amirabdollahian stated that attempting to revive its landmark nuclear deal with world powers that was effectively scrapped by former US president Donald Trump was increasingly "useless".
"Today, the more we advance, the more the JCPOA becomes useless," Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said in a speech to students at the University of Tehran, using the initials of the official name of the nuclear deal.
"Because [Iran's] red lines have sometimes been ignored by the other side, we are not currently on the path to return to the agreement," Amir-Abdollahian said.
"Of course, this does not mean that we have set the agreement aside. If the agreement serves our interests, [we will accept it] with all its flaws," he added.
During his address, he pointed to the developments after October 7, noting that in regard to the issue of Palestine, the public opinion, the youth and elites of the world believe that the discourse of the Islamic Revolution is accompanied by action.
Amirabdollahian added that Operation Al-Aqsa Flood was a 100% Palestinian decision. He also underscored that under the current circumstances, the US and the Zionist regime basically have no strategy for the continuation of the war and for a ceasefire.
