More than 180 people have been killed and hundreds of others wounded as Israeli forces resumed their bombardment of the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian officials, after a week-long truce expired.
Tehran(ISNA) - Eastern areas of Khan Younis in southern Gaza came under intense bombardment as the deadline lapsed shortly after dawn on Friday, with columns of smoke rising into the sky, the Reuters news agency reported. Residents took to the road with belongings heaped in carts, searching for shelter further west.
Sirens blared across southern Israel as militants fired rockets from the coastal enclave into towns. Hamas said it had targeted Tel Aviv, but there were no reports of casualties or damage there.
Gaza health officials said Israeli air strikes had killed 184 people, wounded at least 589 others and hit more than 20 houses.
The Israeli military dropped leaflets over Gaza City and southern parts of the enclave on Friday, urging civilians to flee to avoid the fighting, but rights groups have repeatedly warned there are no safe places in Gaza.
The UN said the fighting would worsen an extreme humanitarian emergency. "Hell on Earth has returned to Gaza," Jens Laerke, spokesperson for the UN humanitarian office in Geneva, said.
Arab states disappoint
Earlier on Friday, the Palestinian Government Media Office in Gaza urged Arab and Islamic countries today to introduce equipped mobile field hospitals to rescue the wounded in the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip.
The government also urged the entry of hundreds of pieces of equipment and vehicles to assist the Palestinian Civil Defense in their efforts to retrieve the bodies of martyrs, which remain stuck under the rubble left behind by Israeli bombs.
"We call on UNRWA to resume work in the Gaza and North governorates," the office said, adding that the aid that entered Gaza during the ceasefire period does not exceed 1% of the population's needs.
Holding the Israeli occupation and the international community, especially Washington, fully responsible for the aggression, the government office stated that the sector requires the entry of a thousand trucks of aid and one million liters of fuel daily.
Resistance engaged in violent confrontations with IOF on Gaza axes
Martyr Omar al-Qassem Forces confirmed that its Resistance fighters targeted the invading Israeli occupation forces in al-Shalehat area west of Gaza City with mortar shells.
Local sources reported fierce confrontations between Resistance fighters and Israeli occupation forces in al-Tawam area northwest of Gaza, coinciding with reports of sirens sounding in the Gaza envelope settlements.
Al Mayadeen's correspondent also reported about violent confrontations in Beit Hanoun, north of the Strip, as well as in Tal al-Hawa, southwest of Gaza City.
Palestinian Resistance fighters confronted advancing Israeli occupation tanks northwest of Gaza in the Sheikh Radwan area, coinciding with confrontations in al-Mughraqa and northern Gaza simultaneous with Israeli shelling targeting the northwest of the Strip.
Hezbollah conducts five attacks on Israeli sites, in support of Gaza
In support of the Palestinian people and the Palestinian Resistance in the Gaza Strip, the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon - Hezbollah, executed five operations against Israeli military sites in occupied northern territories.
The Israeli forces violently struck the outskirts of the border towns of Kawkaba, Ainata, and Aitaroun with a number of shells of varius warheads. Field reporters speculate that the extreme reaction to the Hezbollah's operation indicates that the Resistance's strike on "Dishon" led to significant damage.
The Islamic Resistance in Lebanon, Hezbollah, mourned two of its fighters who were martyred while carrying out their Resistance duty on the path of Al-Quds, the party said on Friday.
