On 28-29 November, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Gabrielius Landsbergis attended a NATO Ministers of Foreign Affairs meeting at the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium.
On the margins of the meeting, the NATO-Ukraine Council met for the first time at the level of Foreign Ministers. The Council was launched this July at the Vilnius summit.
"Ukraine proves daily that it can effectively stand up to its aggressor. Thus, we must strengthen the Alliance's willpower and support for Ukraine, which is fighting for the security of the entire Euro-Atlantic area. NATO countries must provide Ukraine with all possible weapons necessary to achieve victory," the head of Lithuania's diplomacy said.
During the historic meeting, NATO ministers and Dmytro Kuleba discussed in detail the situation in Ukraine, the implementation of priority reforms on Ukraine's path towards its future membership of the Alliance, and what support, especially military support, is needed for Ukraine's victory.
The Allied session, together with Sweden, focused on NATO's role in ensuring long-term support for Ukraine, the commitment to increase defence spending, the need to strengthen the military industry, and preparations for the Washington summit.
At the session with the EU's High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, ministers discussed pressing security challenges in the Western Balkans.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy also met with General Christopher G. Cavoli, NATO's Supreme Allied Commander in Europe, and discussed the situation in Ukraine and actions to ensure transatlantic security.
