According to the Turkish president's office, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi discussed approaches toward a durable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and agreed to sustain coordinating efforts on the topic.
Tehran (ISNA) - According to a statement by the office, the two leaders spoke via phone and discussed the "illegal attacks by Israel against the Gaza Strip, efforts to provide humanitarian aid to Palestinians and steps that could be taken to ensure a permanent ceasefire in the region."
Erdogan and Raisi decided to continue working together to achieve long-term stability in the area, the statement also disclosed.
The Iranian President added that the people of Gaza are the decision-makers to determine the future of the Strip, through the Hamas administration, which represents the legitimate government in Gaza, as it assumed authority through a legitimate process and with the votes of Gazans.
"America has no right to interfere or make any decisions for the people of Gaza, and any action they take in this regard is doomed to failure," Raisi further underlined.
Elsewhere, the Iranian President considered that the United States is murdering the Palestinian people in Gaza, describing any US interference in the future of the Gaza Strip as a continuation of its crimes.
Last week, Erdogan described Israel's crimes as "occupier terrorism" constituting "genocide".
In a direct quote, Erdogan said, "We [country officials] must compel Israel to comply with international law and be held accountable for its actions. We should also break the blockade in the UN" and declared that "everyone, including foreign officials" wants Netanyahu gone.
He went on to criticize politicians who have chosen to ignore the genocide in Gaza and warned them against the "democratic response of the people" as the public conscience has been shifted in favor of Palestine.
Days ago, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated that Israel is close to realizing that it is nowhere near achieving all of the goals it sought after launching its war on Gaza.
"Israel did not achieve any of its goals of occupying Gaza and eliminating the Resistance," he said, adding, "What the Zionist regime has done shows that it has grown desperate in the face of the Palestinian resistance."
Raisi further described Operation Al-Aqsa Storm as the Palestinian people's "legitimate defense of their right," prompted by "[Israel's] incessant oppression."
