The President: NATO allies must be united, strong, and demonstrate maximum readiness

On Friday, President Gitanas Nausėda met with the Commander of NATO's Multinational Corps Northeast, Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart. The meeting discussed the implementation of NATO's regional defense plans agreed upon at the NATO Summit in Vilnius, namely, the development of tactical plans and the assignment of military capabilities to them.
At the meeting, the Head of State stressed that the agreement reached at the NATO Summit in Vilnius on strengthening NATO's eastern flank, on the rotational air defense model, as well as on the regional defense plans, is of great importance for strengthening Lithuania's and the whole region's defense capabilities.
According to the President, Lithuania has an interest in the swift and effective adaptation of the regional defense plans and in the combat readiness, with the necessary allied capabilities assigned to it, as well as the necessary infrastructure and exercises.
"We are NATO's front line. The Alliance is as strong as its most vulnerable areas, so strengthening NATO's eastern flank has to be our top priority. An aggressive neighbor understands only one language—that of force—so we need to be as strong and united as ever and to demonstrate maximum readiness. This is the best deterrent," Gitanas Nausėda pointed out.
The President and Lieutenant General Jürgen-Joachim von Sandrart also discussed Lithuania's contribution to NATO forces and to the capabilities of Multinational Corps Northeast. The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Defense, General Valdemaras Rupšys.
