CSTO Collective Security Council holds session in Minsk to discuss topical issues of international and regional security

On 23 November 2023, a session of the Collective Security Council of the Collective Security Treaty Organization was held in Minsk. It was chaired by President of the Republic of Belarus Aleksandr Lukashenko.

The summit brought together Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, as well as CSTO Secretary General Imangali Tasmagambetov.

The restricted attendance meeting was held in a plenary format. The heads of states discussed in detail the status of and prospects for the development of international and regional security and the main results of the CSTO activities in 2023.

Kazakhstan will chair the CSTO in 2024. The President of Kazakhstan presented the country's priorities to be implemented in the CSTO next year.

During the plenary session, the heads of states reviewed and approved documents on the development of the military component of the Organisation, prepared by the CSTO Joint Staff in cooperation with the CSTO Secretariat and defence ministries. These documents include those on improving the composition of military contingents and special forces formations of the CSTO Collective Rapid Reaction Force (CSTO CRRF), peacekeeping contingents of the CSTO member states and national contingents of the Collective Rapid Deployment Forces (CSTO CRDF) of the Central Asian states. Recommendations concerning the procedure for transferring materiel between CSTO (Collective Forces) contingents have been approved during the session.

The CSTO Collective Security Council adopted decisions on measures to develop the organisation's crisis response system, approved the regulations of the CSTO Joint Press Centre, and established a 'Together for Peace' Medal to award persons who have contributed to the peacekeeping activities.

During the meetings of the statutory bodies, the activities of Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov, Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff, for the period from 2015 to 2023 were highly appreciated. The members of the Collective Security Council have appointed Colonel General Andrey Serdyukov as Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff due to the fact that Colonel General Anatoly Sidorov has reached the mandatory retirement age.
