Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Nasser Kanaani stressed that the United States has prevented the United Nations Security Council from carrying out its duty in pursuing war crimes committed by the Zionist regime through the abuse of power, taking the international peace and security hostage.
Speaking at a weekly press conference on Monday, Kanaani referred to the recent visit of Iranian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ali Bagheri to Geneva and said, "Bagheri's visit to Geneva was conducted within the framework of talks with European Union officials focusing on recent developments in Palestine".
"During the visit, the two sides discussed the role and responsibility that the European Union has regarding these developments, and it was emphasized that given the type of approach the EU has towards international issues and human rights, it must also act responsibly regarding Gaza and make necessary efforts to stop the war crimes committed by the Zionist regime in Gaza," he added.
Answering a question regarding the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's allegations against Iran during his recent visit to Iraq, Kanaani stated, "Accusations against Iran by Americans are made to divert public opinion from the fact that the United States is a party to the war".
Emphasizing that the resistance movement in the region is independent and makes independent decisions, the spokesman said, "Friends and allies of the Islamic Republic of Iran do not take orders from this country".
"Hamas' recent operation was decided by the Palestinian resistance movement and was also carried out by them. These accusations do not reduce America's responsibilities," he went on to say.
Answering a question regarding some requests made by some countries from Iran to help release their nationals have been captured by Hamas, Kanaani said, "Some countries have demanded that Iran, as a negotiating party, raise the issue of the release of foreign nationals who were in the occupied territories as workforce and have been captured by the forces of the Hamas. We have received requests in this regard. We have conveyed these requests to Hamas and Ismail Haniyeh has expressed his readiness to cooperate in this matter with a humanitarian approach. Consultations and discussions on how to implement this issue are ongoing because, as I said, Hamas has accepted the main issue, but the important point in this regard is the crisis situation in Gaza and the bombings of this region by the Zionist regime".
Kanaani also noted that if Zionist crimes against Gaza continue, there is a possibility of expanding the scope of war in the region.
"If the international community does not take effective and serious action, every conflict is possible," he said.
"Iran considers the resistance of the Palestinian nation against the occupying regime to be their inalienable right. Iran has always supported this legitimate right with all its strength and courage, and will continue this support until the liberation of the Palestinians," Kanaani went on to say.
Regarding the Taliban's adherence to its commitments, including Hirmand water rights, he stated that the consolidation of stability and peace for Afghanistan and helping the welfare of the people of this country is important for Iran.
He added that interaction and cooperation with Afghanistan in this framework is ongoing in the political and economic fields, border security, and the issue of water rights.
