Tehran (ISNA) - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has met with Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

In the meeting, the top Iranian diplomat conveyed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's greetings to the Qatari Emir.

Amir-Abdollahian once again expressed his gratitude to Qatar for its constructive role in the prisoner swap issue as well as in the transfer of Iran's assets.

Amir-Abdollahian touched upon a phone conversation last night between the Iranian president and the Qatari Emir and also informed the Emir of the outcome of his regional consultations with officials of the regional countries within the framework of his current trip along with his phone conversations with officials of different countries in recent days.

He underlined the need for collective efforts by Islamic countries to put an end to the war crimes committed by the apartheid Israeli regime against the residents of Gaza, and reiterated the significance of holding an extraordinary meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the level of foreign ministers as well as heads of state.

"If the Israeli regime's attacks against the residents and defenseless people of Gaza continue, no one can guarantee that the situation will come under control and the conflict will not expand," said the Iranian foreign minister.

"The United States, which urges others to exercise restraint, does not act upon this recommendation itself and has stepped up its all-out support for the Israeli regime," noted Amir-Abdollahian.

"Those, who wouldn't like the war and crisis to spill over, should stop the ongoing brutal attacks by the Israeli regime against the residents and civilians of Gaza," said the Iranian foreign minister.

He touched upon his negotiations with high-ranking officials of Hamas in Beirut and Doha, adding, "The officials of the movement have underscored that they, with an Islamic and humanitarian look, have prioritized the handling of the issue of civilian captives, and if the right conditions are met on the ground, they will adopt the necessary measures in that regard."

The Qatari Emir, in turn, voiced concern over the humanitarian situation in Gaza, and said Qatar's priority is to see crimes in Gaza end, and that Qatar's position on Palestine will remain unchanged.

He said the occupying Israeli forces are responsible for the crimes they commit.
