Today 28 September, Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland Thórdís Kolbrún R. Gylfadóttir who is on a visit to Estonia.

The main topics of discussion during the working visit were support for Ukraine, the expansion of NATO and cooperation between the Nordic countries and Baltic States. "We talked about how to provide even more support to Ukraine, including on its journey towards NATO accession, how to continue with the international isolation of Russia and how to bring Russia's ruling elite to justice," explained Minister Tsahkna, who stressed the importance of approving the 12th package of sanctions so that the cost of the war becomes even greater for Russia.

The ministers also discussed the close cooperation between Estonia and Iceland and the importance of cooperation between the Nordic countries and Baltic States. "The Nordic-Baltic cooperation platform should be made even more robust than it already is, since we share the same values and can do great things together," Minister Tsahkna remarked. "The world listens to us."

Estonia has also acknowledged its Icelandic colleagues for the smooth cooperation between the two countries in constructing the Zhytomyr kindergarten and successfully implementing a field hospital project in Ukraine. This partnership is tangible proof that assistance can already be provided to Ukraine in the rebuilding of the country.

This is Minister Gylfadóttir's first visit to Estonia.
